Why Help?

Today, the Johnson family came to MUST seeking help.  They are a family of four with one preschooler and one elementary-aged child.  Mr. Johnson works in construction and earns $7.50/hr and Mrs. Johnson baby-sits and averages $2.50/hr during a 40 hour week.  They work hard to pay the rent on their trailer and meet the other family needs.  This past week they had an unexpected medical expense for their daughter.  They came to MUST to bridge the gap until their next paycheck.

Unfortunately their story is not unique.  Every day MUST hears the stories of hundreds of families who deal with similar issues.  Like the Johnson family, there are 40,000 people living below the poverty line in Cobb and Cherokee counties.  Every day these working families are making hard choices of how to make ends meet.  However, you can help ease their stress and make possible the task of meeting basic needs when there are not enough resources to go around by making a gift to MUST Ministries.

You see, this summer MUST delivered over 100,000 lunches to children in your community who are living in poverty.  Hundreds of volunteers made and delivered lunches to these children’s doorsteps, so that their parents could have the peace of mind of knowing their children would
be fed while they worked.  Thanks to you and others like you, MUST made sure that 1,400 children across the community were prepared for the first day of school with back packs full of school supplies.

Your gift keeps the smile on each child’s face.  Young children don’t typically understand the financial burdens their parents face.  When they see food on the table and they don’t go to bed hungry, they think all is well.

Your gift helps a child’s self esteem.  When children start school with needed school supplies, they are not ridiculed or looked down upon by other children who can afford to purchase what they need.

Your gift keeps a child warm and safe.  No child should have to face homelessness, but many
do.  MUST feeds and clothes homeless families, but more importantly, MUST prevents homelessness by helping families pay the rent and keep the lights on.  Parents are eligible to receive this financial assistance once they successfully complete MUST’s “Get a Grip on Your Finances” course.

Please search your heart and make a difference in a child’s life today by giving generously.

What does poverty look like through the eyes of a child?  Hopefully she’ll never have to know!
